Absolutely Fabulous

A movie we all hoped was in the pipeline… and now it’s finally here. I’m talking Absolutely Fabulous, sweetie darling!

If you weren’t a fan or have no idea what I’m talking about, Absolutely Fabulous, also known as Ab Fab is a BBC television sitcom created by, written by and starring Jennifer Saunders. It’s based on a 1990 French & Saunders ketch created by Saunders and Dawn French.  The series features Saunders as Eddie Monsoon, a heavy-drinking, drug-abusing PR agent who spends her time chasing bizarre fads in a desperate attempt to stay young and “hip”. Patsy Stone ( My favourite ) is a magazine editor played by Joanna Lumley, her best friend and enabler, whose drug abuse, alcohol consumption, and promiscuity far eclipse Edina’s comparatively mild self-destructive behaviour. Despite being a middle-aged, twice-divorced career woman, Edina is reliant upon the support of her daughter Saffron ( Julia Sawalha ), a secondary school pupil (and later university student) whose constant care of her mother has left her a bitter cynic. The series also stars June Whitfield as Edina’s sarcastic and thieving mother, and Jane Horrocks as Edina’s brainless personal assistant.

All up the show was brilliant and created quite the following, probably due to it’s uncensored bad behavior and satirical humour! Eager to attend to premiere to see if the movie was going to produce the same plot, laughs and shock moments, I am happy to report it does! The opening scene saw roars of laughter from the audience. Eddie and Patsy were back in fine form and guest appearances from Kate Moss, Joan Collins, Emma Bunton, Jerry Hall and a few Aussies were strong throughout the entire film. Highly recommend seeing it and if your new to the series, maybe watch a few episodes on netflix before booking your ticket to see if it actually is up your ally.

Guests to the Aussie premiere included; Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Alex Perry, Mairanda Tapsell, Carissa Walford, Ksenija Lukich, Erin Holland, Fiona Flkiner and Donny Galella.
