RACING SEASON INSPO WITH WESTFIELD
Spring racing is well and truly underway. I’m excited to announce I’m back for my fourth year as host of MYER’s Fashion on the Field and I can definatley say that ladies and gentlemen alike have been putting their best foot forward when it comes to fashion over the past few months at race days all around Australia.
So let’s talk outfits – what makes for a head turning look? I’m all about mixing price points and finding looks that will have longevity in your wardrobe. As the race days are fast approaching, my one piece of advice is to head somewhere you know has multiple brands under one roof. For me I love a Westfield! Particularly at the moment I’m crushing on Westfield Chatswood for Spring Racing, with all my favourite go-to brands in the one place…especially with a little one. Nothing like shopping, lunching and making a day of it. So here are three looks to suit each day… you’re welcome
AAMI Victoria Derby Day is known as a day of exceptional racing, fabulous fashion and colourful entertainment. Although the dress code is black and white, it’s an incredibly chic day. So are you in search for the perfect look, why not go a jumpsuit! This one is by Cue. It’s high neck and wide leg, elongates the body. While it’s black and white, small print is both feminine and flattering. I’m also all about hats this season, so I couldn’t go past teaming this look with a strong fedora style that I picked up from Country Road. This hat will also be on repeat all summer, as it’s perfect for everyday and the beach. I kept my accessories to a minimum and went a sophisticated black clutch and heels.
MELBOURNE CUP DAY
Melbourne Cup Day is Australia’s best-known horse racing event held on the first Tuesday of November every year. This event is popularly dubbed as “the race that stops the nation”, but the eyes are also on MYER Fashions on the Field. The MYER Fashions on the Field precinct will showcase some of the brightest and best looks on offer. Embrace a rich colour palette or pick a colour and incorporate splashes throughout your look. For some inspiration, I chose this look from Seed. Its pretty silhouette is eye-catching and with its simple white and red print, you’re sure to feel the part. This dress will also be another great addition to your summer wardrobe. I know I will have this on repeat come summer. By keeping the dress simple, go big when it comes to headwear. This piece is by Morgan & Taylor available in MYER. White makes a statement, no matter what your hair colour and by adding a bold lip, you’re creating a pop which again fits the brief for Cup Day. Accessory wise, I chose to go red, red shoe and red clutch to perfectly tie this look together. Not going to Melbourne Cup Day, but love this look? No worries, with its feminine colour palette, this look can also easily be worn for Oaks Day.
KENNEDY OAKS DAY
Oaks Day popularly known as Ladies Day has been an extraordinary phenomenon of racing. Despite being held on a work day, Oaks Day boasts the fastest growing crowd records of any day in the Carnival. Personally I feel that this day is the most fun to dress for. I always love to add a twist to an already modern favourite, or allow myself the chance to really amp up the elegance factor. With metallics still being very on trend and my love for all things 1940’s (which seems to be making a comeback) this look is sure to excude ladylike status. This Jumpsuit and wrap top are from Country Road, again great staples for your wardrobe outside of racing. Accessories include statement earrings ( only $14.99 ) and a matching metallic clutch. When it came to the headpiece I decided to go for a contrast colour and add a bold black headband. This one again is from MYER “Collection”, which has a great range of hats and millenary for the racing season. I also recommend Forever New, Mimco and Country Road for some fun buys.
I hope these outfits have given you some inspiration for Melbourne Cup Carnival. Hopefully with these three looks you can get an idea on popular trends and pieces that can be worn trans-seasonally and most important have longevity for their price tags. Another reason I love a Westfield shop is that it offers variety in both brands and price points to uncover your perfect look. Do we really need an excuse to go shopping ladies! haha
My Tip: Don’t forget if purchasing new shoes, to wear them in prior to race days as no one likes blisters, nor is it attractive to leave the racecourse with your shoes in your hands! See you trackside.
